All children deserve a safe, happy life-including the 513,000 American children and youth in foster care. Many of these formerly abused or neglected children and teens will safely reunite with their parents, be cared for by relatives, or be adopted by loving families. But others are less fortunate. Every year, more than 20,000 older youth "age out" of foster care and are left alone to face life's challenges. Changing a Lifetime. At the YWCA Santa Monica / Westside we believe that the best chance for young women to reach their goals is to stay in school. In our donor-supported Transitional Housing and Education Program, we provide young women who are former foster youth with a beautiful home, food, social services support and much more while they pursue their educational goals full-time, work part-time and save for their future. May is National Foster Care Month... You Can Change a Lifetime! No matter how much time you have to give, you can do something positive that will Change a Lifetime for a young person in foster care.
